Home Security and Smart Tech in St John's Wood: A Practical Guide for NW8 Homes

Ai Protech, London

St John's Wood is full of period villas, mansion blocks and larger family houses behind gates and mature hedging. Those properties have different security and technology needs from a modern flat: more doors and windows to cover, longer driveways, thick walls that hamper Wi-Fi, and owners who want protection that does not spoil the look of the building. This guide sets out what usually makes sense for NW8 homes, with the prices from our published packages, all inc. VAT.

Start with a survey, not a shopping list

Every property here is different, so the sensible first step is a visit. Our Home Survey & Design visit is £99: an engineer walks the property and leaves you a camera and device placement plan and a written recommendation with a fixed quote, and the fee is credited against any booking of £500 or more. You can then decide what to fit, and in what order, without guessing.

Intruder alarms for larger homes

A house with several floors and outbuildings needs more detectors and a panel that can be zoned, so you can arm the ground floor at night while upstairs is in use. Our Family Home alarm package is £1,099, and the Large Residence package, aimed at bigger properties, is £1,699. For a mansion-block flat, the Flat/Apartment package at £699 is usually enough. If you want a combined approach, our guide to layered security with alarms and video intercoms explains how the pieces work together.

CCTV that covers the approaches

For a villa with a front garden or driveway, the aim is to see who is approaching before they reach the door. Home Protect CCTV is £1,499, and Estate Elite, designed for larger grounds with more cameras, is £2,799. Good camera placement matters more than camera count, so we position units to cover entrances, side access and rear gardens while keeping them discreet. You can read more about the options on our CCTV and security page, or compare approaches in wired vs wireless CCTV. St John's Wood is in the City of Westminster, so the packages on our CCTV installation in Westminster page apply here too.

Gates, doorbells and entry

If you have a front gate, a Gate Entry Kit at £1,499 fits a vandal-resistant gate station with a GSM intercom that calls your phone and a keypad for entry codes, and connects to your gate automation. The other entry packages are on our intercoms and door entry page. For a simpler front door setup, Video Doorbell Pro is £399. Already bought a doorbell or camera kit yourself? Our fitting services start at £129 for a doorbell and £449 for your own CCTV kit.

Smart home without ripping out the decor

Older properties can be tricky for wireless devices, which is why we plan the network first. Smart Essentials is £1,499 and puts smart lighting in the hallway and lounge and a smart thermostat under one app, with Alexa or Siri voice control, while Total Comfort at £3,999 and Ultimate Living at £7,999 go further for whole-house control. Details are on our smart home automation page. If you only want better heating control, Smart Thermostat Setup is £179 to fit and set up a thermostat you have bought.

Wi-Fi that reaches every room

Solid brick and plaster walls are hard on Wi-Fi signals. A Wi-Fi Health Check is £149 and a Whole-Home Mesh Setup is £299 (the mesh hardware is quoted separately, or you can supply your own). For a more permanent fix, wired access points backed by proper cabling are the reliable option; see our data networking services.

TV mounting and media walls

Large living rooms and period chimney breasts often suit a wall-mounted TV with hidden cabling. Our TV wall mounting packages are £149 Basic, £229 Standard and £349 Premium, with details on the TV wall mounting page. For a TV and soundbar with the cables hidden in the wall and LED backlighting, see media wall design, where the Media Wall package is £549.

All prices above are VAT-inclusive and taken from our current package list. If you tell us the property type and what concerns you most, we can recommend a sensible starting point and book a survey. Request a quote and we will come back to you promptly.
