Hammersmith is a mix of Victorian terraces around Brackenbury Village, mansion blocks near the Broadway, and newer riverside apartments. Each type of property has different security and technology needs, and a one-size-fits-all kit rarely suits them. This guide explains what tends to work in W6 and what it costs.
Terraces and houses: cover the front and the back
Victorian terraces in W6 often have a street-facing front door and a rear garden reached through a side return or a shared alley. Those two areas are where most attention should go. A sensible starting point is our Home Starter CCTV package at £899 inc. VAT, with two 5MP cameras for the main entrances and live viewing from your phone. If you also want the garden, side access and driveway covered, Home Protect at £1,499 inc. VAT gives you wider coverage with four 4K ColorVu cameras that record in full colour after dark. Local detail for W6 is on our CCTV installation in Hammersmith page.
Pairing cameras with an alarm makes a difference, because cameras record an event while an alarm tries to stop it. Our Family Home intruder alarm package is £1,099 inc. VAT.
Flats and mansion blocks: keep it proportionate
In a flat, the front door is usually the only realistic point of entry, so a heavy system is rarely needed. The Flat/Apartment alarm package at £699 inc. VAT is designed for exactly this. For your own front door, a Video Doorbell Pro at £399 inc. VAT gives you 2K video, night vision and two-way audio, so you can see and speak to callers from your phone. If the shared entrance panel is the problem, see our page on door entry systems in Hammersmith. Already bought your own doorbell? Our Video Doorbell Fit service is £129 inc. VAT.
Leasehold and managed blocks may have rules about what can be fitted to communal areas or external walls, so check with your managing agent before booking anything that changes the exterior.
Wi-Fi that actually covers the whole property
Thick Victorian walls and multi-storey layouts are hard on Wi-Fi, and smart devices and cameras need a reliable signal. If your connection is patchy, a Wi-Fi Health Check at £149 inc. VAT identifies the problem. For a full fix, Whole-Home Mesh Setup is £299 inc. VAT to install and configure up to three mesh nodes, with the hardware quoted separately or supplied by you. Read more on networking and Wi-Fi.
Smart home: start small, add later
You do not need to automate everything on day one. Smart Essentials at £1,499 inc. VAT covers the core of a connected home: smart lighting in the hallway and lounge, a smart thermostat, everything in one app and Alexa or Siri voice setup. More rooms can be added later. See our smart home automation page for more detail.
TV mounting, often on the same day
Many W6 homes have chimney breast alcoves, lath-and-plaster walls or stud partitions, which all need different fixings. Our TV wall mounting service starts at £149 inc. VAT for a Basic Install, with Standard at £229 and Premium at £349 inc. VAT. Same-day fitting is often available, which is useful when a delivery arrives from a London department store. Prices and local detail are on our TV wall mounting in Hammersmith page.
How to choose
Start by walking around your property as an intruder would. Note the easiest way in, the darkest side of the building and where deliveries are left. Then decide what matters most: deterrence, evidence, convenience or all three.
If you would like a design done properly before you commit, our Home Survey & Design is £99 inc. VAT and is credited in full against any booking of £500 or more. For multi-service projects, combining CCTV, alarm, Wi-Fi and TV mounting in a single visit is usually more efficient than booking them separately.
