Twickenham Home Security Guide: Cameras, Alarms and Doorbells

Ai Protech, London

Twickenham homes range from period terraces and semis to converted flats and newer apartment blocks, and the right security setup is rarely the same twice. This guide explains how we approach a typical Twickenham property in TW1 and TW2, which Ai Protech packages suit which kind of home, and what to decide before you book. All prices below are inc. VAT.

Start with the entrances, not the cameras

The most useful security plan begins with a walk around the property. Where does someone actually get in? For most houses the answer is the front door, the side gate or passage, and the back garden door. Cameras and sensors should cover those points first, before any thought of covering every wall.

A few questions help:

  • Which doors and ground-floor windows are hidden from the street?
  • Is there a side passage or back lane that nobody overlooks?
  • Do you want to see who is at the door, record what happens outside, or both?
  • Is anyone at home during the day, or is the house empty from morning to evening?

If you are unsure, a Home Survey & Design visit is £99 inc. VAT. An engineer visits, gives a written recommendation and fixed quote, and prepares a camera and device placement plan. The £99 is credited in full against any booking of £500 or more.

Cameras for a Twickenham house

For a smaller house where the front and back are the main concerns, Home Starter is £899 inc. VAT. It includes 2 x 5MP turret cameras in grey or white, a 1TB drive with around 2 weeks of footage, live viewing from your phone, motion detection alerts and a neat single-visit install.

For a larger family house, or one with a side passage and garden to cover, Home Protect is £1,499 inc. VAT. It includes 4 x 4K ColorVu cameras with full colour footage 24/7, a 2TB drive with 3-4 weeks of footage, smart human and vehicle detection, instant alerts to your phone, and active deterrence with a strobe and siren.

Placement matters as much as the camera. Mount too low and a camera is easy to knock or cover; point it into streetlight glare and the footage suffers. This is where an engineer's plan earns its keep. You can read more about the range on our CCTV and security page, or see the local page for CCTV installation in Twickenham.

Alarms: flat or house?

A camera records what happened. An alarm tells you, and everyone nearby, while it is happening. The two work well together.

  • Flat/Apartment is £699 inc. VAT. It is a wireless alarm with a smart hub and keypad, 1 door contact and 2 motion sensors, app control and instant notifications. It is fully wireless, with no mess and no drilling, which suits a flat where you would rather not run cables.
  • Family Home is £1,099 inc. VAT. It includes an advanced hub with 4G backup, 2 door contacts and 4 motion sensors, photo-verification sensors that show the cause of an alert, an external solar siren (bell box) and 2 proximity key fobs.

If you have a garage or outbuildings, Large Residence at £1,699 inc. VAT adds a hybrid control panel, full perimeter shock sensors, smoke and CO2 integration, and garage and outbuilding coverage. It is police response compatible.

The front door: doorbell options

A video doorbell is often the first thing people add, and it is where many homes start.

  • Video Doorbell Pro is £399 inc. VAT: 2K HD video with night vision, two-way audio via the app, smart person detection and an indoor chime included.
  • Already bought your own? Video Doorbell Fit is £129 inc. VAT. We fit and wire it using your existing chime or transformer, set up the app and alerts, and add an angle bracket where needed.

A doorbell sees the doorstep, but not the side gate or the garden. Many households pair one with a small camera system for exactly that reason.

A new TV while you are at it

If you are having a new TV delivered, it is sensible to book the mounting at the same time. Basic Install is £149 inc. VAT: your TV mounted level and secure on any wall type, with load-tested fixings, a cable tidy for a clean finish and same-day installation in most areas. See our TV wall mounting page for the other packages.

Before you book

A short checklist saves time on the day:

  • Decide whether you want recording, alerts, or both.
  • Check where your router sits, since cameras and doorbells need a reliable Wi-Fi signal or a cabled connection.
  • Tell us about pets, as they affect motion sensor choices indoors.
  • If you rent, check your tenancy terms before any drilling, or ask us about wireless options.

Our engineers hold NICEIC, NSI and SSAIB accreditations between them, and we use Hikvision accredited engineers for camera installations.

The best result usually comes from a clear plan: cover the entrances first, add an alarm for the inside, and choose a doorbell that suits how you use the front door. If you would like a plan for your own property, we can help.
